Breast Lift & Mastopexy in Manhattan, NYC, New York (Westchester County)

In 2006, more than 500,000 women chose to have breast enhancement surgery including breast reduction surgery, breast augmentation and breast lift surgery. Schedule your consultation in Westchester County, New York today.

Breast lift or mastopexy surgery is a technique designed to restore a more youthful shape and position to a breast that has developed ptosis (drooping of the breast) related to aging, pregnancy, breast feeding, or weight loss. Over the years, these factors and the effects of gravity take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. A breast lift is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts-- at least, for a time. (No surgery can permanently delay the effects of gravity.) Mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple. Incisions required for breast lift are similar to those required for a breast reduction. The major difference between a mastopexy and a reduction are that in a reduction the excess breast tissue is removed while in a lift it is lifted and rearranged to a more youthful position. If your breasts are small or have lost volume, breast implants inserted in conjunction with a mastopexy can increase both their firmness and their size. Ideal candidates for breast lift or mastopexy surgery are those women who are pleased with the size of their breast when wearing a bra and those patients with good quality skin with few stretch marks.

Breast lift or mastopexy surgery is an outpatient procedure performed at Dr. Greenwald’s ambulatory surgery facility located in Harrison, NY located approximately 30 miles north of Manhattan and New York City. Below are some of frequently asked questions about breast lift surgery in Westchester County:

Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is a procedure that enhances the shape of a woman’s breast. It is one of the more common procedures performed by New York Board Certified plastic surgeon Dr. Greenwald in his Westchester County surgical facility. Breast shape is affected by numerous factors including loss of skin elasticity that occurs with aging, pregnancy, breast feeding and fluctuation in a woman’s weight. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts tend to elongate and lose their more youthful form. If you are satisfied with your breast volume but feel your breasts sit too low on your chest, breast lift surgery will address your concerns. A breast lift can restore the contour and shape of your breasts.

In our Westchester County facility, Dr. Greenwald performs breast lift surgery with the latest, most refined techniques available. Dr. Greenwald redefine the bust line by repositioning the nipple and areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) to a higher position, returning the breast tissue to a higher level, removing excess skin from the lower portion of the breast, and then reshaping the remaining breast tissue and skin.

Mastopexy patients are amongst the happiest cosmetic surgery patients. Please contact our cosmetic plastic surgery practice in Westchester County, New York schedule a breast lift surgery (mastopexy) consultation with Dr. Joshua Greenwald.

Incisions are typically located around the areola (pigmented skin around the nipple) extending down to the fold underneath the breast, and underneath the breast itself.  There are many “short scar” techniques that eliminate the incision placed underneath the breast.  Dr. Greenwald will let you know during your consultation if you are a candidate for a minimal incision breast reduction.  Candidates for a minimal incision mastopexy are those patients who require a moderate amount of skin excision and nipple-areola movement.  Just as any other surgical scar or incision, incisions from breast lift surgery predictably mature and fade over time.  Dr. Greenwald will instruct you on how to optimize and support your incisions in the postoperative period.

Some patients require a combination of techniques to achieve their goals.  As the breasts begin to sag, they may also lose some of their size and volume that they previously had. Dr. Greenwald may recommend that you consider breast augmentation at the same time as your breast lift.  A saline or silicone breast implant placed at the time of your breast lift will restore the volume to your breasts.  No additional incisions are needed as the implants are placed through the breast lift incisions.

During your initial breast lift consultation, Dr. Greenwald will inquire about your medical and surgical history including current medications and allergies.  It is important to be thorough when discussing your medical history as safety is Dr. Greenwald’s top priority.    Your full disclosure of all pertinent medical information prior to surgery will reduce the incidence of unwanted complications after surgery.  You will discuss your concerns and motivations for seeking cosmetic breast surgery.  Details of breast lift or mastopexy surgery will be discussed including the location of incisions. The risks of surgery will be discussed in detail.  Numerous before and after photographs of actual breast lift patients will be reviewed during your consultation.  Frequently, during this part of the breast augmentation consultation, the patient sees a photograph that she feels is most similar to the before and after result she would like to obtain.

You will then be asked to put a gown on.  Dr. Greenwald will then make several important measurements to help determine the optimal implant size and shape for your particular body.  Photographs will be taken.  Dr. Greenwald’s staff will then place your photographs on the imaging system.  Dr. Greenwald will then review your photographs with you.  Differences between the 2 breasts (i.e. asymmetry) will be noted and proposed incisions demonstrated.  Computer imaging is an invaluable part of the consultation and is available to patients seeing Dr. Greenwald for cosmetic surgery consultations at his White Plains, New York office in Westchester County.  Dr. Greenwald encourages you to ask any questions during you consultation.  A surgical plan will then be deigned to help you achieve you goals.  There are many ways to do a mastopexy ranging from a periareolar lift to an anchor or Wise pattern mastopexy.  Dr. Greenwald will determine which type of mastopexy you are a suitable candidate for.  Following your consultation, you will meet with Missy, Dr. Greenwald’s patient coordinator, to discuss scheduling your surgery and answer any questions you may have forgotten to ask Dr. Greenwald.

Breast lift surgery is not an exact science.  Although the majority of women experience no complications, Dr. Greenwald will discuss potential risks and complications of breast lift surgery at the time of your consultation.  Prior to undergoing breast lift surgery with Dr. Greenwald, it is important for you to fully understand the risks and potential complications associated with your procedure.

Provided you are a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery, breast implants will provide you with the increased size and fullness you are seeking.  The results will be long lasting.  It is important to remember that your breast will continue to age on top of the implant.  Breast shape may also subsequently change secondary to pregnancy and fluctuations in weight.  Problems with the implants themselves are rare; however, implant rupture may occur and require the placement of a new silicone or saline breast implant.   Maintaining a relationship with Dr. Greenwald after your breast augmentation surgery is important to help you address these changes and other concerns which may arise.  Regular examination by Dr. Greenwald and routine mammograms for those in the appropriate age groups at prescribed intervals will help assure that any complications, if they occur, can be detected early and treated.
